Fragrances and dyes could cause irritation or possible an allergic reaction in some people. You are putting lotion on an open wound. Once the tattoo is healed, scented lotion will be fine to keep it hydrated.

You never want to use scented lotion on a tattoo, it can cause some weird reactions possibly leaving you with a scar or messing up your piece. A lot of scented hand soaps and lotions contain things that you do not want to be getting into your skin, different chemicals and concentrated organic things. Honestly starting out though I would recommend you use Aquafor, at least for the first 4 to 5 days applying a very thin coat to the point where you can't really tell its on there. Too much can pull the ink out of the skin. Switch to lotion after those first few days and with that you can apply it whenever it is dry, Aquafor should be applied a maximum of 2 times daily.

The point of putting lotion on your new tattoo is to hydrate and heal the skin. Skin absorbs lotion, and it is much better to not have that newly-damaged skin absorbing some sort of perfume/fragrance chemical that the manufacturer decided to scent their lotion with. Your tat will heal fastest and healthiest with unscented lotion, so it would be worth your while to go drop a few bucks on a bottle.

yes becuase right after getting a tattoo, it is still like an open wound. Because your skin is sensitive still you don't want a lotion loaded with other things to make it smell better. I found unscented baby lotion at the store for my tattoo.
