I'm thinking about getting it done for my birthday this weekend. But I wanted to get some feedback from other people who have gotten it done.

*I'm old enough to do it
*Both of my jobs don't care (already checked)

and please no "eww, don't do it" comments. I'm just thinking about doing it..

So what advice would you give me?

Sometimes bad infections, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis, can be spread by body piercing. Other problems may include bleeding, swelling, scarring, and reactions to the jewelry. Tooth chipping and gum damage can happen in people with tongue and lip piercings. Jewelry in the mouth or nose can be swallowed accidentally.

If you are going to have a body piercing done, you should find a professional with a good reputation. Look for someone who uses clean, sterilized tools. Do not do the piercing yourself, and do not let anyone who is not a professional piercer do it. Never rush into having a piercing. Select the body site and jewelry carefully.

I got my lip pierced about 5 years ago and for me it didn't hurt at all. For the first few day its a little hard to speak correctly. Make sure the place you go is clean and uses needles. I don't know if this is first piercing and i just want you to be aware of those things in case it is. Rings do work best for healing a lip piercing. Also for after care: First 2 weeks you'll need to use mouth wash after everything you eat drink (except water) or anything else you may stick your mouth..(like smoking). I don't suggest using listerin b/c its a little too strong. Scope or a no name works best. For the outside clean it with soap and water using a q-tip, 2-3 times a day. Don't move the ring around a lot for the first few weeks, this is b/c the piercing will create crusties and moving it around while its trying to heal may tear the inside of the lip piercings and also will hurt. Good luck with your decision.

I had my lip pierced once, but it was very painful for me so I took it out, because the lady who did it was stupid. She pierced it very low, when it's supposed to be on your lip line, thats why its call a lip piercing. The reason why it was painful for me is because when I ate I'd accidently bite it, and sometimes when I talk loud or move my mouth around it'd be painful. But if you get it pierced in the right spot you wont have any problems, personally for me, a small hoop is a lot comfertable than a stud, you wont even know its there if you use a hoop, and plus their cute :) The pain rating from 1-10, would probably be a 4 or a 5, cause I have a very high pain tollerance (which is a good thing). My advice, just when you go get it done, act cool and calm just relax, cause they'll ask you to breathe it breathe out, do it nice and slow just breathe and relax the whole time your there :) If it helps, you can watch videos of people getting their lips pierced at youtube.com, just type in search "lip piercing" and theres people getting there's done. On how to clean it: Buy mouthwash with NO alchohol in it, rince for 60 seconds when you wake up in the morning and before bed, and also everytime you eat or drink anything. You gotta clean the outside also with Dial Antibactirial Soap, clean it with a qtip 2-3 times a day and also Saline Solution, which is sea salt. Just clean the outside with a qtip 2-3 times a day, or you can buy your own sea salt in stores if you cant find Saline, take about 2 tspoons in waters, stir it and clean with qtip. & remember, only touch the piercing when cleaning it! Dont play with it constantly, only when it heals completely, because I used to always play with mine and I got this white pimple looking thing growing on it in the inside, but thats when I took the piercing out and it went away. & always wash your hands before touching it. and your wearing a hoop you gotta move the hoops around because it will get all crusty, and if you wear a stud, turn it, do this everyday while cleaning it, morning night during day, it doesn't matter. So I wish you the best of luck! :)

I've had the left side of my lip pierced for over 2 years. The guy was a dumbass and made it a vertical, I wanted it straight through, but it's all good, it looks fine. As long as you take care of it, it should be fine. Get a ring in it when you first get it pierced, do not put a stud in it. If you put a stud in it in the beginning, when it swells (it doesn't always swell but it is a big posibility) it will put a lot of pressure on it and make it hurt a lot more.

As for the pain part, don't think about it. I didn't fine mine painful at all, but I'm just a freak of nature as people tell me. I find piercings to be soothing to me, and they relieve stress. They tell me I'd be the one when I get my nipples done to get pleasure out of it... Anyways, sorry about that... But yeah, don't think about the pain, if you want it done, go through with it. The one question I hate "Did it hurt".

I have had my lip pierced for 2 years now and have not had any complications. the problems that the first person who answered listed are all possible. For me it only hurt like a bee sting. No worse than your ears getting done. It has actually helped me to keep from chipping my teeth any more because I used to chew on paper clips. I don't recommend getting a standard lebrae stud, because the skin on the inner lip will tend to close on the back. I had that problem myself. I prefer a lebrae loop that has a flat bottom and curves up and over your lip. it is a lot more comfortable and safer for your teeth. My uncle and 2 cousins are certified tattoos artists and piercers. I have grown up around all of the body arts. please make sure to use rubbing alcohol and antibiotic cream. also to gargle and keep it very clean.

ok well i have an unusual lip piercing, it's a horizontal surface piercing through my bottom lip and i absolutely love it! although if i take the barbell out of it for more than five minutes it likes to try and close OUCH!!! it hurts really bad to put it back in. but if you actually go through with getting your lip pierced, i'm guessing it'll be a normal piercing. then make sure you clean the outside with a saline solution of uniodized sea salt and warm water (1/4 teaspoon of salt to every 8oz of water), soak your peircing for about 5 to 10 minutes two to three times a day, although if it looks like it's getting irritated cut back on the soakings. good luck!

Just take care of it, but don't overdo it. Wash the outside with dial soap, and make sure there is no crusties. Gargle with 50% listerine/50% water in the morning and night. Don't touch it with dirty hands. Treat it like any other wound.

Be careful not to bite it the first couple days, and tighten the barbell daily with dry hands.

Any other info, email me.

Doesn't hurt at all when the needle goes through.

You'll feel a pinch for about 3 seconds while they put the stud/ring in.

Your lip will swell a little.

Do EXACTLY as your piercer tells you, in terms of keeping it clean, etc.
