the most practical scheduling is that i get a tattoo on the 19th of a month and then i m flying NYC to Dublin for school on the following 28th.

if i keep my tattoo covered under clothes (and maybe gauze..) on the flight will I be okay to fly? or is it too risky in terms of infection, etc.?

I suppose that depends entirely on how healthy and careful you are. Average healthy person who isn't rubbing their unhealed tattoo on tray tables and toilet seats should be fine. Anyone with a compromised immune system or a tattoo on a body part that touches everything (or someone that really wants to touch toilet seats) might want to push the date of their tattoo up to give at least a few weeks before the flight.

You should be fine as long as you keep the tattoo clean and moisturized.

Keep a small bottle of soap and lotion/ointment with you and put it in your carry on luggage so you can wash your tattoo on the plane. Ideally you should use lotion/ointment more than you normally do because the air on a plane is very dry.
