I just got a tattoo today, 7-10-08, at around 3:30p.m. My question is, should I shower tonight, or not? Thank you for any information you can provide!

yes... make sure you shower and use hot water (not hot enough to burn ..) it rinses away the excess ink and dried blood. use non-scented anti-bacterial soap (dont scrub, just cleanse like you would your hands)

after you get out of the shower, pat the tattoo with a towel and let it air dry... once it is dry apply a thin layer of whatever you are using for aftercare ( i recommend aquaphor!) dont use a lot, too much will suffocate the tattoo and slow down the healing process.

after about a week you can use non-scented lotion to keep it moisturized

** to the people saying not to clean it... it is a wound like any other... it needs to be cleaned and taken care of to prevent infection and to promote faster healing

YES. For everyone around you's sakes, take a shower. You're tattoo will be fine. Don't take a 45 minute long shower. Try to take fast showers, so your tattoo doesn't soak for a significant amount of time. The hot water might sting a little, but its supposed to. Its a wound. You absolutely have to keep your tattoo clean, to reduce chances of infection, etc. Use only your fingers to wash it, don't scrub it with anything. Use plain unscented soap. Pat (don't rub) it dry.

One hour after the tattoo wash it lightly with warm soapy water and apply the antiseptic cream. Then cover with cling wrap. Have a shower tonight and continue as normal. Do NOT have a bath or swim for 3 weeks. And when it gets itchy in a bout a week, do NOT scratch it.

What did your tattooist tell you? When I got my tattoo I had to wait 4 hours before I could take the plastic wrap off, then I had to wash it with scentless antibacterial soap. You should shower, to keep it clean and prevent infection. It' like an open wound. Just make sure that you put either A&D on it afterward, which is what my tattooist reccamened or something similar.

Yes, shower! Your tattoo needs to be clean so don't avoid showering, cleaning it, keeping up on general personal hygene. Just don't rub it dry. Pat gently, use a white unscented lotion or whatever your artist recommends. Follow after care and never neglected to clean your tattoo, even after it heals because it's still part of your skin.

My tattoo artist says to clean the tattoo after 2 hours with antibacterial soap and warm, not hot water, but after that try to keep it as dry as possible, so don't emerse it, but go ahead and shower.

i have 3 tattoos and from personal experience YES you can shower, DO NOT scrub or rub it, pat it dry as soon as your done showering!

just thought of this, while you are in the shower you can clean it with dial soap, like i said thought dont really rub it just kinda pat it on! hopefully your artist told you about cleaning it with dial soap once a day!

No you shouldn't. and when you do make sure its not too hot (the steam is bad for it) and make sure you dont soak it or emerse it in water while its healing. so keep that part of your body away from the water stream. The tattoo cannot be submerged in water or all the ink will be pulled out or scabs will become moist and the tattoo will be destroyed.

It's fine to shower, yes. But you shouldn't "soak" your tattoo.

Shower, but do not submerge the tattoo. Pat it dry-don't rub it. Apply lots of Aquaphor right after you bathe. What's your first tattoo of?

I don't think you can. Once you just get it, I think you have to keep it out of the water for like a week or two. Try to cover it up as much as you can.

Didn't your artist tell you any advice? Sheesh. His fault I guess.
