How old do you have to be to get a tattoo in chicago?

i'm 14 years old and me and my friend want to get a small tattoo and we have an 18 year old friend taking us.
would i be allowed to get it, and where?

In addition to not being allowed into the studio unless you are with a parent, you still cannot get a tattoo until you are 18.



Even parents cannot sign for them in Illinois.



Elliott - when you are going to quote state laws, be sure it is from the STATE'S page....it is a class A misdemeanor, not a class C - that was in the old legislation.

No one under the age of 18 is allow to come in the place that gives perminit tattoo unless they are 16 with a parent or gaurdian permission. Those are the rules in the United States including Chicago.

generally you have to be 18 to get a tattoo but if you go into the shop with your guardian at the age of 16 you should be fine and be able to get your tattoo

it is illegal for any shop in illinois to tattoo a minor (anyone under 18), even if they have legal consent from a parent. so in other words, you have to be 18.

you probably won't listen to us but don't do it. I have never met anyone who got a tattoo when they were that young and still like it. and only the worst tattoo shops would let you get one at that age.
