Neither one is better or worse. I had mine pierced at an 18g, and didnt want to switch to a 20. I finally did because I had so much trouble finding 18g studs. Theres really no big difference, and I dont think it matters. I change gauges all the time without a problem.

Not much...an 18 gauge is a slightly larger bar that goes through the hole in your nose. It really doesn't matter which one you choose, you wont really be able to tell the difference and it won't effect the piercing any differently with either.
By the way, a professional piercer in a tattoo or piercing shop will not use a piercing gun on a nose piercing. That is ridiculous!!!
It doesn't matter either way.

20 gauge is thinner than 18 gauge.
go for 20 because it will probably heal better when you take it out.
Sometimes piercers use a gun for 20G piercings, never let them do this. If they use a gun just say no

20g is the smallest guage. 18g is the next size larger. there isnt that big of a diff btween the 2. it all depends on how noticable u want the piercing 2 b. 18g will obviously b larger and more noticable. i know a guy that guaged his nose to a 10g and can blow smoke out of it. its sick.

You might want to measure you current piece of jewelry. One isn't better than the other, they're just different sizes.
