I've just turned 18
my best friend and I have been talking about getting tattoos when we turn 18 for quite some time. I want to get a quote tattooed on my wrists. in small black cursive writing. I already know what I want. However I'm nervous that it will affect my chances of getting hired as a teacher in the future. what do you think?

Elementary school is a little different than middle school and high school. They do care a lot more about visible tattoos and piercings. Since yours will be on the wrist, that might become a problem, especially because you'll be working with impressionable, young children. If you do decide to get a tattoo, I suggest you get it in a place that you can easily hide it with clothing, especially since you'll be working in a professional environment. It's sad to say that some people look down on others because of tattoos, so it may hinder you when you go in for interviews and attempt to be hired.

Depends on your area you plan to teach and the principle who runs the school, any where in the bible belt it could effect your job chances. Plan to teach up north or out west, then i doubt it. In my town there is a teacher that is absolutly covered and since they are all tastefull its not a problem. It doesn't matter which grade it only matters what principal you have running the school!!

Not many good people go in the teaching field so i wouldn't worry about this too much as long as your a hard worker. I would still consider if your worried about it to get it else where. Plus everyone and their mama is getting wrist tattoos right now!! Come up with a more hideable, interesting place would be my advice! If it concerns you then really should you do it there??

It really depends... I'm going into a paralegal career and it's pretty staunch. I'm getting a tattoo soon but I'm making sure to get it where it can be hidden by clothing. Everyone is different but be sure to do your research before applying for a job if you have a visible tattoo or piercing. I wanted a nose ring as well but seeing as I really want a job in my field I figure not getting a hole in my nose is a small sacrifice to make. :) You can contact the company's HR department and ask what their policies are for piercings and tattoos. They're there to help and will tell it to you straight.

Last year in Elementary school there was a teacher with a huuge one on her ankle, but that's the only teacher i know of, but a lot of the subs had tattoo's. Ohh, and the old principle had a tattoo on his arm, so as long as it's not like swearing that you can easily see or things like skulls or naked people that is easily visible then it shouldn't be a problem. And my cousin has a Visible tattoo and she's a grade 3 teacher, and she didn't have a problem.

It SHOULDN'T matter, but unfortunately, depending on how progressive or conservative the communities are where you apply for work, it might.

If it's on the inside of your wrists, you could just make sure you wear thick bracelets that cover it to the interviews. Or invest in a good concealer makeup which you can apply for work.

Or consider getting the tattoo in a more concealable location, so you can cover it up for work, but somewhere you can also show off when you want to when "off the clock." Lots of teachers have tattoos, but most of them have them in locations that are usually concealed by clothing.

I don't think it would affect your potential job at all. But just in case and if you're really worried about the tattoo, at the job interview, cover the wrist up with a sweater or anything. Doubt they would fire you after hiring you.

I don't see why it would matter but maybe you should put it on your ankle to be on the safe side. My old manager has Fu** You on the back of her neck but her hair covers it up.
