Pimple on new tattoo?

I recently, a week ago, got a tattoo done on my rib cage. I began noticing pimples (?) showing up on the tattoo?
I've been researching everywhere if my tattoo is infected or not, but I don't have any of the "symptoms". It's not tender, and it doesn't hurt. It's not red or anything, either. I've been using A&D ointment. Should I stop using it?
Is this normal, or not?

It is not infected. Keep using the ointment and wait for the tattoo to heal. Do not scratch it or anything. The pimple will go away (a few days) after the tattoo heals. I had a couple of such pimples too. They were very small and I'm not sure but I don't think they had that white head. Right? They lasted for a few more days after the tattoo healed but then they were gone.

This isn't really anything to worry about. It isn't uncommon for people to get a bit of a breakout on or near a new tattoo - it's the body's way of telling you something is happening in your skin.

It's not a sign of infection, and it's not likely to be a reaction to the ink. So you can stop stressing about it. :)

What I would suggest though, is be mindful of how much ointment you are using. Most people think that the more they put on, the better. Don't absolutely smother the tattoo in ointment - just enough to cover it, and be completely rubbed in.

If you have futher worries, you'd be better to call your artist or drop into the studio for advice. You will instantly get a well informed and accurate answer to any questions, and on the spot advice.

If you're seeing red bumps, that probably means your skin isn't getting to breathe. Stop using the A&D ointment, and switch to Lubriderm (at least that's what I used), original/unscented. The A&D ointment is keeping the tattoo moist, but it's also so thick that the skin isn't getting to breathe.
