Seriously - if you can't get your parents' permission, then you have to wait. Any tattoo artist who will tattoo an underage person is not a good tattoo artist. Trust me. If you manage to find someone, it won't be at a clean or reputable studio, and your tattoo will look terrible. It might even be dangerous if it's the kind of place that doesn't sterilize properly. Please don't take that risk. Just wait two years.

In most states, even with parental consent, you have to be 18 years of age or older to get a tattoo.

Some states, will tattoo anyone 16 years of age or older with parental consent, meaning they will have to come to the studio with you, show proper identification, sign a consent and release form, stay for the duration of the tattoo, etc.

However, most reputable, and clean facilities will not tattoo anyone under 18, regardless of the local law.

Wait until you're 18.

Until just a couple of years ago, ALL tattooing done in South Carolina was illegal.

Being allowed to have legitimate shops in SC was a very hard won fight for artists all over that state, many of whom were amazing yet forced to be "underground" being in a state that did not allow tattoo establishments.

That said, now that these artists have finally won the ability through legislation to own and operate shops legitimately, you will be very hard pressed to find anyone to break the law and tattoo you underage.

The law in SC is very straightforward. 18. Period. No parental consent waivers.

Again, this is an issue of you being selfish and wanting someone to break the law to satisfy your inability to wait until you are of age. You are 16 - you only have two years to wait. It speaks to your immaturity that you say "all you want is". All you want is someone to break a law and risk their professional license and livelihood - for a hundred bucks. No thanks.

Wait it out, get a good tattoo from a good shop. You'll have two years to design the tattoo you want, whether it's "just a couple of stars" or not.
