I do have one small bit of advice. I got a saying tattooed on my arm and kind of regret it now. People read you, constantly, and never get it. So then you have to explain it, and they still don't get it. So, if you have your heart set on lettering, maybe considering getting it somewhere that people won't see it everyday. Trust me, you'll get SO sick of "What does that say?"

I keep personal journals and have their French name on my left bicep on an epilete covering a heart with a dagger... I know very over elaborate, anyways I too was stuck with ideas for lettering, so went out and bought a caligraphy set and started playing about with that, which helped alot made me get a better grasp of what fonts I was looking for and how it would work (because even if things look cool on the net as a font, it has to suit the design and unless your a photoshop whizz Im not sure how else you would be able too see a font in your design)
just a thought, although my tat artist was cool, now that Im back up in Liverpool I dont know who the good artists are for this kinda stuff so am a bit gutted lol sorry that last bit has nothing to do with your question
hope this idea helps anyway mate

hello. i have three tattoos. two of them are text. one is in Arabic (my fiance name he's Egyptian) on my lower stomach. and the other is a French quote in old English on my ribs. check out this website for different lettering styles http://www.bmeink.com/let001.html. If you find one you like take it into your artist ask him to do the lettering like that. Also you can ask your artist to freestyle it. good luck. hope that helps.

hey, I would go to:
http://www.dafont.com
there you can choose between TONS of different FREE font styles, and even get a custom preview of your text in a particular font. then you can download the font for free on your computer (both mac and pc) and print it out – voila!!
hope this helps, good luck honey!

The place where you are having the work done should have a selection of font styles to choose from. It's important that the artist you have doing your ink is able to work with any particular style you choose, so consult with that person. When I had my tatt done, the guy couldn't do small letters so it didn't turn out the way I had wanted it to.
Or go to this site to see a whole ton of fonts for tattoos

I think a lot depends on what the words are.... if it is something classic, I like Blackface. If it is the names of some loved ones, a handwriting-type font can look nice. Think about the meaning of your words and pick appropriately.

What is it going to say? It's good to know what you want written and then decide from there. Old English is popular, I like fancy scpirt. But I don't know what you want written so you can't really decide on a font. Search them and you'll find one you love.

I would go for something that no one else would have. My dad was really into music so when my dad died two yrs. ago I tattooed sheet music around my foot and up my ankle with the notes DAD in the sheet music. I have never seen one like it nor have my friends. So come up with something that will be original.

When I got my tattoo, I asked the tattoo artist to draw freehand what I was describing. I loved his version and that's the tattoo I ended up with.

Um, I wouldn't get a tattoo. First of all, it hurts. Second of all, it kinda burns your skin. And third of all, it stays on forever so if you don't like the design on it or you don't like it, you can't take it off. I'm not saying you can't get one, just saying I wouldn't. But if I wanted to, I would get the first letter of my name or if you had or have a favorite person or pet, their name and a heart or skull or something like that.
