I just got my tattoo touched up...?

Question

I usually use aquaphor for the first 3-5 days then I use lotion after that.

This time my artist told me NOT to use any aquaphor, just keep it clean & apply lotion.

What do you guys think about that?

Also, which lotion should I use on it, Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy (Original Moisturizing creme) -or- Curel Ultra Healing 24 hr daily lotion for extrea dry shin (on the back is SAYS fragrance free...but it sure does smell good)

user "savitor" said "DO NOT use anything with extra healing in it" which is good advice because you want a tattoo to heal naturally, but just keep it moist. this is the reason why using neosporin, contrary to popular belief is not a good idea. yes, some people will get fine results with such things, but there is no point in chancing it. speeding up the healing process may cause scabbing which may lead to minor scars and color fall out.



anyway, aquaphor is good to use, as well as A+D ointment. they are both very similar. i'm not sure why your artist told you not to use it and to just use lotion, even tho i sometimes do that myself out of laziness, but i get my tattoos for free, which means free touch-ups so it doesn't bother me, heh. one thing that bothers me about not using any sort of ointment for those crutial first 3-5 days is that lotion will not suffice in keeping a fresh tattoo moist. your skin reacts to lotion entirely different unhealed then it would if it was closer to healing after a week. instead of keeping it moist, it will most likely be absorbed too quickly, or simply not absorbed at all, and rub off, if that makes any sense. ointment in a thin layer is good because it will penetrate the surface while still allowing the skin to breathe if applied properly.



as far as which lotion to use, it goes into what i was saying before, i wouldn't use anything with healing properties, even though this is most likely refering to the "healing" of dried cracked skin and probably doesn't literally have healing ingredients in it, but i can't say for sure, i don't have a bottle in front of me. so pretty much anything scent free like you said (and yeah i've seemed to notice that they DO smell good anyway) but it's all good.

Read the product ingredient list on the back of each. If it says that there is mineral oil in either product don't use it. Mineral oil will pull moisture out of the skin, drying it excessively. And it will also interfere with your colour. This is why tanning salons forbid the use of any lotion containing mineral oil, before spray tan treatments.



Do you have any Vitamin E capsules at home? I would use this for tonight, and then go to the pharmacy tomorrow and buy a cream made with Shea Butter.

I use shea butter on mine, and have had no problems. Tattoo Goo is a great substance also, but a little more pricey (about $10 for 1oz). Lanolin works well too. A good brand name is Lansinoh, which is made for nursing mothers (how I found it) and is in with baby care stuff. I don't even bother with those thin lotions, I just itch again in five minutes. All of these products are naturally derived, and aren't full of chemicals. Good luck, and hope this helps.

i would go with eucerin. anything that does smell good has some kind of fragrance or an oil with a natural fragrance. BUT my tattoo artist uses aquaphor or A+D on new tattoos. so maybe it's just the artist. i'd use it if you have had good results before.

Vasaline intensive care !!!! My husband is a licensed tattoo artist and he said DO NOT use anything with extra healing in it, like an antibiotic creams and lotions. This will pull the color out.

AQUAPHOR IS FINE! but alot of people dont need to use it unless they have some serious scabbing....



dont use anything else.

but after the tattoo stops peeling and is no longer scabbed up, start to use CRUEL fragrance free alcohol free lotion...

I could simply wait till you recognize for certain in case your pregnant or now not. There is the threat of blood illness, ordinary illness and hepititus so simply wait it out to be riskless. I received a brand new tattoo on July third and learned July sixth I used to be pregnant, I freaked on the grounds that had I even concept I used to be pregnant I could have placed it off.

I agree... my tattoo artist had me just wash with warm water and antibacterial soap, then apply Aveena ... unbelievable healing process... work perfectly. I did this about 5x a day... important to keep skin soft, but do not put a lot of cream on, less more often is better.

Cruel original formula, is always recommended. If it burns when you put it on then I would suggest using neosporin ointment first if your body is ok with that. That's what I've always done and when it starts feeling dry re-apply. Good luck!! =)

use some cocoa butter on it, it seems to work best. i have two and they healed great with cocoa butter
