I know that it can be done, on one of my tattoos the artist used a sharpie to redraw my design to fit my hand, but I cant remember if it was a special marker she used. I drew a design on my foot, and because of the shape and the way it goes around my foot, its hard to capture a good picture to copy to transfer paper, and wax paper just wont do. The design is on with a sharpie, it is filled in too, but I can take alcohol to it and redo the outline everyday until I have the money to get it done by her. Anyone know if its a special marker I need to use? Or does it not matter because non of them are toxic anymore.

Lots of artists do it is all I hear. I have a lawsuit now on a artist for using sharpie. On the label it says non toxic. If you ingest, inhale, or if it gets in your blood stream it is no longer non toxic. That is not for it's intended use. If I may suggest you contact sharpie distributors directly 1-800-346-3278. They will tell you tattooing is dangerous and not for it's intended use. Every sharpie has a vin # with different chemicals. Also here is another site listing dangers and chemicals so you know I am not some internet troll. Most people that give advise are oblivious and uneducated about topics.http://chemistry.about.com/b/2013/01/10/are-sharpie-tattoos-safe.htm

I am educated in this topic because it almost killed me and I spent a month in and out of the hospital. Sharpie has been very helpful in my lawsuit against the artist responsible for not being educated in proper use of sharpies. I cringe when I see sharpie being used in the process

what they do is draw out a stencil using refrences most of the time (or they free hand the design) and then they transfer it on thermafax paper. its just a type of stenciling paper that dransfers tempary ink onto your skins as a guidline for the artist. most artist have thermafax machines that scan the stencil and transfer it for them or some artist are go oldschool and stencil their design on the thermafax paper by hand. after it is transfered to the the thermafax paper they use various products from deoderant sticks to specially made stick it and rub it on your skin so the thermafax stencil will stick onto your skin. it has to dry for 5 to 10 min so it doesnt rub off but the thermafax paper comes off with soap and water.
