I used to want one on my wrist when I was in high school. But now i am very glad that I had the 3 yrs to seriously think about it until i turned 18. I now have my first tattoo and I absolutely love it! It is so special to me and I am glad to know that it is unique to me and no one can replicate it.
People who get those kind of things, in my opinion, just want a tattoo to have one. And I think that is all wrong. Pick something that is important to you. Not a tattoo that is just "popular" at that point in time. They will look back upon it and regret it.

In the early days of Tattooing sailors spent lots of time on shore and with every tattoo it had a deeper meaning than what most of your friends probably don't know unless they have done research ... Sailors usually were on a path and never based in any port... The Nautical star means a "path" or a guidence reverence for the sailor... Kinda hard to explain.
Just as the blue birds over each pec.. The old time Tattoos are very in and very popular and I love seeing anyone getting them... Carry on..........................

Who are you to judge what other people get for tattoos? Do you have ink? Do you hate all tattoos or are you just so superior it's up to you to decide what is right for OTHER people to get on THEIR bodies?
Wow.....that is one judgmental question. I agree that some tattoos are a bit over done.....but I think that it is a person's choice how they decorate their body. I'm sure these people realize that many others have chosen the same tattoo. It doesn't make their choice wrong. Hopefully they are taking some time in deciding what they want, as I feel adequate time in the planning stage is the best defense against regret.

It says that the nautical star tattoo is a symbol of protection and guidance. So I guess people get it because they feel lost. Maybe it helps them find their way in life.

personally, i know that everyone and their mother has a nautical star tattoo. but i want to get one for myself.
it originated with sailors. they would tattoo nautical stars on them because they relied on the stars to take them home, and being superstitious, they hoped their star tattoos would get them home safely as well. its purely symbolic.
however, i do agree with you that people should know the meaning of something before they have it put on them for the rest of their lives. you should never get a tattoo just because you think it looks cool.
but stop being so judgemental.

Well at the end of the day they will be the ones with them when they are old and will realise how silly they were to get something permanent just to be in with the crowed.
