my tattoo artist told me i should avoid wearing sneakers for a little while but i have work tomorrow and kind of have no choice.. so what's the best advice you can give me? so my tattoo doesn't fade or mess up its healing process because of this? or will it not be that big of a deal? helppppp

It shouldn't be a big deal if you wear the shoes just at work :)

Bring a pair of extra shoes with you that don't touch your tattoo... drive in them to work (change into your sneakers) then after work change back into your tattoo safe shoes :)

your tattoo will be fine :)

I got a foot tattoo this past Friday, so a little over 3 days ago, and I feel like I wouldn't personally be TOO afraid of it messing up much from sneakers. Prior to getting this tattoo, I called the tattoo shop I go to and asked about shoes, and they said since there's not much you can do, just wear them as loose fitting as you can. You certainly don't want to mess up your tattoo. I don't know about you, but for my tattoo's healing process I've always been told to use Lubriderm unscented lotion, so if I were you I would put plenty of that on before the socks and the shoes, to try and help the sock from sticking to your tattoo and pulling the ink out. Probably try and put lotion on it as often as possible. This is my own personal thoughts though, but it seems to me it should do the job if it's absolutely necessary for you to wear tennis shoes.

Good luck!

I got one a week ago and have worn nothing but flip flops so far, but mostly because I can. I got a much smaller one on my other foot about ten years ago and started wearing tennis shoes within a couple of days due to work and had no problem. My new tattoo is on the upper top portion of my foot, where a shoe would rub more, so I've been more hesitant to wear something constricting on it. The first foot tattoo was down near my toes where there was less rubbing. If you are planning on it being on the top of your foot up closer to the ankle, the shoe is going to rub more. I loosened the laces on my shoe a lot and that also helped.

i am assuming this is on your foot...

it has been a couple of days. it will be fine. the first 48 hours are the key hours of healing. yes, a foot piece will take MUCH longer to heal thanks to gravity but it will be ok. i suggest you placing a non-stick breathable bandage on it and place your sock over that. this will protect the piece from the friction of your shoe and sock. if you do this do not put any lotion of ointment on it. your feet sweat in socks and sweat along with an ointment or lotion will be too much moister for the tattoo. i strongly recommend for at least 3-4 days remove your shoe and bandage at every break and clean the piece and allow to air out. then start the process over.

I also suggest asking your artist what he recommends. I am quite sure he will say exactly what i have stated above. but you should always point any question you have about your tattoo at your tattoo artist first.

Agree with Am. Popcorn however have one more step for you....if you are going to be at work for 8 hours or more bring an extra pair of socks with you. When you get your break wash your foot as soon as you can, pat it dry & let it air dry for the remainder of your break. Right before you go back on shift apply your ointment/lotion massage it in well and put on your clean pair of socks. Also on extra tip for foot tattoos.....because its a lower extremity theres a chance if you're on your feet a lot it may swell up and throb. Try to stay off your feet when you can with your foot raised and if need be take an over the counter pain medication.
