I'm finishing my tattoo on my wrist. I have a simple star and I got it for my friend that died almost 2 years ago. I was going to get more little stars and the date which would go "030808." I was talking to a friend today and she said that would not be a good idea and that I'd regret it. How can I regret a date that will never change?
What do ya'll think?

its fine if it represents a date that you will remember forever and changed your life. you wouldnt want to get a date of something that could change or disappear, i.e. aniversary or something but i think a memorial date would be ok

I like the Roman numeral idea... although I think it might be even better to put the date of his birth or something, to celebrate his life more. Or you could get a tattoo of something that symbolizes your dad's personality. I really like this idea - my dad died a few years ago by a sudden heart attack too, and I think it would be a great idea for my sister and I to get a tattoo to remember him!

I don't see how you'd regret it..

I mean, are the stars just cosmetic? Or do they represent something about your friend?

As for the date, it's there to commemorate her. So no, you would not regret putting the date of her death on your body, especially if she was very special to you.

EDIT: Based on what you've added, I would say that this is a tattoo that will never result in regret. It will be a beautiful memorial for her, and it has personal meaning to it. I say get it.

Why not take the zeros and just put 3/8/08 and add his/her birth yr?? like this for example: 12/4/86-3/8/08...

Yea, if she's a good friend and if affected your life drastically then go for it. At first I thought it was like date about a boyfriend I was like NOOO!!! But in this case I think it's good. But if it's the date that she died it'll seem a little creepy, superstitiously I mean

go for it. i have numbers for the day 6 of my friends died in a car accident. I have 1/13/06 on my ankle in a baseball with ballet slippers on it and the numbers are above the slippers. 3 were dancers and 3 were baseball players. I'll never forget that day and I did it in memory. The date is important so go for it. That was a day your life changed!

i think it can go either way the tattoo already has meaning to you and the date will really just be your preference i wouldn't do it but it is your body and i think you should what makes you happy maybe you could sharpie it on and try it out for a while before making a permanent decision

The date has meaning to you and if you've thought it through before getting it, you won't have any regrets. As long as it's styled the way you want and looks fine size wise, it is your body and other peoples opinions shouldn't matter. Your not getting it done to please anybody, but to remember somebody. I know it's not the same, but I have my daughters footprints with her name and birthday 12.13.06 underneath.

i think that if you dont get it too big then you won't regret it.

I mean if it was a date like of an anniversary of yours i would say that you may cause you never know but its your friend that past away so i think it is an ok idea.

dates and names I almost always say are bad ideas. but as you say this is a date that will always be significant to you and that will never change.
