Is it okay to have tattoos visible during office party?

The law firm I work for is hosting a summer party this sunday and I was a member of the planning commitee. It's taking place at a park completely outside andthe temperture is forcasted to be in the 90's that afternoon. My problem is this, on my right arm I have a very elaborate tattoo that goes from my shoulder to my elbow (it's a Frida Kahlo painting). A few people in the office are aware of this tattoo, some are not including the head parter of the firm who is a bit on the conservative side. I have smaller more subtle tattoos that are visible on a daily basis but I just don't know if it would be okay to wear a t-shirt that would reveil my tattoo or to wear a sweater... any opinions would be great!

i would think that normally u should not show this tattoo but u say u show other tattoos and no one says anything so i would suggest asking your boss if it would be okay to show at the party. if u can't get a chance before the party then u should probably play it safe and get cover with a 3/4 quarter sleeve (a sleeve that covers up to ur elbow) so ur not too hot and then when u get there u can see what everyone else is wearing (if u have other co workers with tattoos and follow them) or u could show off ur arm but use a make up to cover up the tattoo (there are make ups that stay on even in the hot sun) and u want to keep in mind that u should always stay professional with anything dealing with ur job whether in the office or not. But the line of professionalism is set by the boss so take it from there.

good luck

If the head partner of the firm is on the conservative side, I suggest you keep the tattoo covered. Even when professionals get together for a casual time, the bosses and other decision makers are still watching. There are plenty of clothing options including fabrics that wick away moisture to keep you comfortable.

Think about that promotion!! Your job performance isn't the only thing bosses keep track of.

If you boss cannot look past a tattoo of an artists painting then he really needs to get a life. But if you are that worried about what he might say and what might happen with your job I would say that you where a baseball shirt. Three quarter length if you can find one. My job is the same way. While at work and while at work functions, my tattoo's are to be hidden at all times. I hope this helps and you don't pass out from heat stroke.

Unfortunetaly it is not appropriate - especially for a law firm. You're going to need to keep it covered. Most professional firms find large tattoos unprofessional so it would be best you do not let anyone of any importance find out.

When I see these young people just covereing their open skin in ink, my first thought is always "enjoy a life in the fast food industry because you'll never get a real job looking like that." It may not be nice, but it's a fact.

If you're on the committee, part of the party will be like work for you. Accordingly, I would wear a light sweater to be sure. If the climate of the party relaxes, and the higher-ups leave, then you can relax. But make sure you have the cover-up handy, they can change perceptions at times.

Ok first of all that is a very good question. If i was u i would be kind of aware too.But what i would do is if the tattoo is very graphic like curse words,or anything that is not very appropiate then no because it would not be a very good impression on the job.But if it's positive then girl u straight so keep it cool.peeeeeeeace!!!!

I wouldn't be too concerned about it as you have tattoos that are visible at work (unless it is something they might consider offensive - I'm not familiar with Kahlo).

It's not really for us to comment, is it? It totally depends on how well you know your co-workers and how you think your bosses would react. We don't work there, you do.

My opinion? Get yer tats out and be proud of 'em!! (But I'm not the one paying you your salary.)

NOT AT WORK-NOT A PROBLEM.

You conduct yourself with deco rem at the office, they should allow you to kick it .(As you said, they are aware of tattoos on your person.1 more should not make a difference, unless to them,SIZE MATTERS!.)

If you dont normally show that tattoo during normal work hours, I wouldn't show it at the party....unless you talk to your boss first. It is better to ask than to just assume it is ok.

If you are not getting paid to be there and its your own time then I personally would wear whatever I wanted.

for me there is no problem with that.... you are not on school anymore.. and it is a party... and there is nothing that they can do about those tatto anymore...plus, you are part of the committee.. so to sum it up,,,enjoy the party!!!!

I wouldn't show it seeing as the head is conservative.

i would highly suggest that you continue to cover it. Even though the people who don't know won't say anything, in reality, they will look at you differently.

It is not the workplace so you can show it if you want too all they can say to you is not to show it at work.
