hey guys I was just wondering about this tattoo aftercare product I have tried many things: A & D (possibly the worst) Bacitracin, normal lotion including eucerin, lubriderm and some others, but I still scab up no matter what the product I have heard that aquaphor has ingredients in it that wont irritate the skin like those that have patroleum in them.

Please no comments about how good the other products are everybody has different skin and heals differently I would just like answers about aquaphor

I only use aquaphor and not one of my tattoo's have scabbed or lossed color. It works well, in my opinion I wouldn't use anything else.

First, Aquaphor also contains petrolatum. If used in a very thin layer the only thing it may have over A&D, for instance, is that it does not contain lanolin and a lot of people are sensitive to that.

Next, scabbing is not normal under all conditions. In fact it should be the exception and not the rule. What are you doing right after your tattoo? Is there ointment and a non-stick bandage applied by the artist? How soon do you wash it? Also the location affects scabbing, too. If it is in an area that moves a lot like an ankle or knee it is going to ooze more and you are more likely to scab.

I work at a tattoo shop and we recommend using suave, lubriderm, curel or cocoa butter lotion. Applied thin, a few times a day. Hot Topic and some tattoo shops sell H2Ocean which is very good for tattoos. But NO ointments. They are too thick and do not allow your tattoo to breath and heal correctly, and it can pull your color out.

aquaphor is possibly the best moisturizer i have used.

when my skin peels [like from a tan/ sunburn or whatever], i use it, and it works great! so, i would say go for it. its pretty much the same as vaseline.. so if you tried that and it didnt work, then the aquaphor might not.. but try it :)

Your always going to scab up, its part of the healing process. As for what you use, its irrelevent, and a personal choice.
