I am a tattoo artist and let me tell you the facts.

Just because we charge you $100 for a tattoo, doesnt mean we are making $100! We have to give the shop owner a percentage of every tattoo we do. Standard percentage is 60%!!

That means if I charge you $100, I am making $40!!!

So think of it that way and reconsider your tip. A decent tip for a $100 tattoo is $20. You can always be nice. :)

If your tattoo has alot of detail and/or alot of color, your tattoo artist has worked HARD! Show them the love and that you really appriciate their work.

We have to sit there and make sure that what we are putting on your body is exactly what you want and we have to make sure you are going to love it because it is on your body for the rest of your life. That is ALOT of pressure.

We dont just go fetch your food and refill your drinks...

I have 5 tattoos and I always tip.. 3 of mine cost between $180 and $220 and I have $50 for those 3. My 2 smaller ones I tipped $20. I don't think a lot of people tip their tattoo artists though because even though I go to the same guy every time he seems shocked and always asks if I'm sure about my tip. Just use your judgment if you want to tip. It's completely up to you.

Tattoo shops and their tattooists are well aware that tattooing is so expensive that many really bite the bullet just to pay $100.00 an hour, for whatever they're getting. I only tip according to how good the service was, whether it's a tattoo or anything else. But shop experience teaches you that many do not tip at all, as the expense incurred is great. We've got a sign up, 'Tipping is good karma' but it's not necessarily expected. And the only ones who really worry about it are the somewhat insecure. Ten, twenty or fifty if it's a really expensive piece is plenty, should you decide to tip.

Well, for a 400 dollar tattoo I tipped 60 dollars. Depends how happy you are with the work. 10-20 %, but I've seen people tip 40% or even higher. If you are a repeat customer, consider bringing your artist a gift instead/as well

If you're satisfied with the work, you should tip 15-20%. If you absolutely love it and had a really good experience, tip more.

I tip a lot, but I always go to the same artist and he's done a lot of really great work for me over the past few years, so I figure he deserves some extra money on top.

Generally it depends on how much you like your new tattoo. 10% is a very acceptable amount but it's up to you.

If you dont mind queuing and paying a bit more I would recommend giving Miami Ink a call and seeing if you can schedule an appointment.

After all a tattoo is for life.

Depends on how much and involved the tattoo is. For something simple that might cost $750-$100 I'd say $5 is adequate.

I didn't know I was supposed to. I am so embarrassed.
