Price and pain aren't something anyone is going to be able to answer. Price depends on what you're getting, size, detail, artist, etc. Pain depends on your level of tolerance and placement. They don't "hurt like hell." They hurt, but they're bearable.

Where on the body should be something you decide as well. It also depends on what you're planning on getting. Some things will look good in certain places and bad in others.

It doesn't even sound like you've put much thought in it. Don't get a tattoo just because you turned 18 and think you should get one. You're pretty much guaranteed to have an ugly, regrettable tattoo that way.

Im a girl, 19 years old, and I got one on my lower hip at age 16. It means a lot to me, and it will always mean a lot to me. I know people that got ones that they already hate a year after the tattoo was done. So I can't ever tell you exactly what you need to know, because the choice is 100% yours. I'll try and help you out though so you're prepared. Answer these questions before you go:

1) How long have I wanted a tattoo? Have I really thought about why I want a tattoo? Will I still want this tattoo when im 50?

2) Think about why you want a tattoo again haha think long and hard

3) Do I want everyone to see it all the time? Do I want to have to answer questions about it? Or do I want it somewhere less noticeable like my back, legs, or chest? (you want one that you can cover up with clothing when you're older, but you are still glad you have it)

4) What design means something to me? what design will mean something to me when i'm 50 too?

5) how much pain is tolerable? (tattoos don't hurt a lot, i could handle it at 16 and i HATE needles,so i think you'll be fine!)

Ask yourself these questions, like REALLY ask yourself these questions and you'll be ready for a tattoo

Well first off, its going to hurt and the price really depends on how big it will be.

Secondly, I wouldn't get it if you are iffy about it because in the end you might regret it and the price of having it removed is going to be more than the price of getting it, not the mention, the pain is worst I heard.

And if you are dead set on getting it, depending on where in life you want to go as in career wise, I would think about getting it somewhere along the line where you can hide it because some employers won't hire because of it.

Price wise, it can vary based on size, amount of ink used, etc. A friend of mine got one that covered a lot of his inner forearm and it costed him a couple thousand. One of my other friends got a little wrist one and it only cost fifty. It hurts the most to get it done on bone, so look around your bosy for a place that seems pretty solid. Anywhere would be cool to get one. I preferably like ones around the wrist or anywhere on the arm. The best tattoos to get are the ones that actually MEAN something to you, so think hard about it before you decide what you're choosing. There's tons of websites to help you out too. And don't forget to make sure the needles sterile, we don't need anymore ppl with HIV. Have fun.

i'd do it somewhere that isn't too noticeable in business situations, tattoos can really change employers opinions about you. Make sure it's something that is VERY VERY important to you. There's nothing worse than getting a tattoo and then regretting the chosen design afterwards. Plus removal is expensive and painful. Try to go somewhere where the artists have their own tattoos. That shows they should know what they are ding. Good luck.

Im not going to try and talk you out of it. I love tattoos and eventually want a lot of them. Remember that tattoos are for life so you dont wanna be walking down the street one day and see someone with the same tattoo as you, or realise your worst enemy has got the exact same tattoo you have. To avoid this make the design unique. Even tho its just a star sign dosnt mean it has to be exact, give it some personality of its own, you want people to see it and think it looks different and cool, otherwise its jsut another thing on your body and thats it. If you are good at drawing try coming up with your designs, even if you decide to go with the tattooists design your designs will help him establish what you want. AND! most importantly make sure the tattoo parlour is clean, and there is no drugs, smoking, or alcohol. With tattoos you can usually tell by the price (and the artists portfolio) what quality your getting. In Australia a good tattoo is atleast $120 (australian dollars). If you cant afford that remember this is something youll have the rest of your life... its probly not worth getting a $50 and thinking its 'ok', when u can get a tattoo thats $150 (australian) and fall in love with it. I hope this is what u wanted to know and for all the "what happens when your 70 and wrinkly" people, at that age you really wont care anymore How many 70 year olds arnt married or are single and still goin out looking for a partner or trying to have sex When your 70 a few tattoos will be the least of your worries Tattoos will be around till any of us are dead, then another 100 years after that still.

You've got a lot of good advice already. Just one more thing, please don't get Chinese characters unless you actually KNOW Chinese. Otherwise you might end up with something like "DungLover" on your neck/arm/ankle.

don't worry about pain

you need to be 100% happy with the tattoo and the location

my advice:

pick out what you want.....don't rush into it

sit on the idea for a year and use that time to perfect it.

Also, make sure you find the perfect artist

I'm a fan of originality too. So while stars and whatnot seems to be a popular pick for a "safe first tattoo"

you'll probably want to have something that 8 million people don't already have

avoid trends......tribal for example

and most importantly, do it for yourself.....if you really love tribal, and are completely confident you'll love it for the rest of your life, go for it

but don't get something to please anybody else

good luck

P.S. for any further questions you have like which places hurt the most/least........use the Yahoo Answers Search Bar

I say it all the time, but honestly, you'll get many results quickly

I would make absolutely certain that you are ready for a tattoo before taking the leap. Remember kids, tattoos are permanent!

Here is my advice: Try out some temporary tattoos in various places on your body until you are comfortable with a particular one.

A quick Internet search yields the following temporary tattoos:

"My Little Pony", "Dinosaurs", "Rainbows", "Princesses", "Stars".

Try some on your upper arm, neck, forehead, etc. See what kind of reaction you get. Go for a job interview after applying a fresh dinosaur tattoo on your neck. Go to church. Go to court. See if you still feel comfortable.

Good luck!

The short answer is to get something personal to you, pick the best artist for your project, don't bargain shop for your tattoo (cheap tattoos aren't good, good tattoos aren't cheap), and make sure you go to a professional, not some hack in his kitchen.
Aye. Right!

If you are just 'kicking the idea about', then you probably aren't ready to get one. Once you are ready, a design will have entranced you, and you wont care two hoots about the cost, the pain, or what anyone else thinks! Until then, please don't get anything.

So you should think more on it, remember you are "labeling" your self ,if people don't care for them, they may not say so But will think about maybe in a negative vein, and there's also job prospects, with a slow economy employers will be more choosy
