My dad passed away this past November, and I want to get a tattoo to remember him by. He died unexpectidaly from suicide. No one had any idea that my dad in a million years would ever do that. It has been a very hard time for me and I want something to remind me of all of the good memories

oh, Wendi, I am so sorry for your loss, and I can totally understand why you would want a memorial tattoo. I think the best thing to do is to think about what his favorite things were, maybe think of him being your guardian angel now and what he would wish for you. Take a few months to sketch things out, maybe gather ideas and pictures or objects together in a folder, then bring them to an artist to discuss some possibilities. I took 3 years to design and decide on memorial tattoo to my grandparents, and when I finally knew what I wanted it was totally worth all the work and patience... a good artist will be patient and help you through the process of designing a good custom design.

Blessings and I wish you peacefulness- dd

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss.

My 21 year old sister was killed in a car accident 3 months ago. Myself and My mom both wanted to run out and get memorial tattoos, we just didn't know what. We ended up getting my sisters very first tattoo. It's chinese chi that says "Courage & Healing". She got it when she turned 19, it was on her inner arm above her wrist. My mom got it in the same place but I got it on the back of my leg. It had alot of meaning for her when she was alive and now has alot of meaning for me after her unexpected death.

I'd say go with whatever you feel is right. My sister loved fairies, she had a huge fairy tattoo on the middle of her back. I plan on getting a fairy but am not totally ready to have a sitting for that long. My mom is going tomorrow to get my sisters portrait done and I think I might get 3 butterflies representing myself, my sister and my mother and have them each colored in our birthstone colors.

You do whatever feels right to you, what you feel you can live with for the rest of your life. Maybe something he loved...maybe something you both loved doing together...maybe a tattoo he had?

Anyway, good luck

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss, and what a nice idea you have. Just let it come from your heart, think about it for a while, maybe go talk to your tattoo artist about drawing something up. (This will probably require a deposit of about $20.)

Is there a symbol or something that reminds you of him? I am getting a tattoo of a cross with a yellow rose laying across it in rememberance of my grandfather. His favorite flower was the yellow rose of Texas.

My brother is getting a replica tattoo of the old Navy tattoo that my grandpa had.

When my dad passes away I want to get "free Bird" around my ankle its his fav song. I think a meomrial tattoo shouldn't have names or dates but like their fav song or a quote from a movie or book they love or a symbol what was the song you rember him playing grow up? Get the title around your ankle you'll smile everytime you see it and will remind you of your childhood with him but thats my suggestion good luck and sorry about your lost.
